Convict Ancestor

Price & Associates Genealogical Services
We offer the ability to trace your ancestors back 500 years, and discover whether or not you have a convict ancestor!

Did you know that in the past England emptied its prisons by sending convicts to Colonial America and Australia?  Today that would be like the United States sending its prison inmates to a colony on the moon!  Millions of people in the United States and Australia alive today descend from a convict ancestor that was dumped there by England in centuries past -- and they're not ashamed to admit it!  Actually, it's kind of cool... Check out our research packages to learn what we can do for you!

Truth is Stranger Than Fiction

Historians have documented the movement of more than 50,000 convicts from British prison cells to Colonial America (primarily Virginia and Maryland) between 1607 and 1776.  Benjamin Franklin, the famous American founding father, disgusted with the practice, recommended that the colonies return the empty boats that brought convicts across the Atlantic back to England filled with live rattlesnakes to repay the favor!

After the colonies gained independence during the American Revolutionary War and formed the United States, Great Britain looked for a new place to exile "undesirables."  Officials finally agreed on Australia and sent shiploads of prisoners "down under" beginning with "The First Fleet" in 1787 until 1868, when the practice was banned.
