An Interesting Case Study in GenealogyThose who are interested in family history would be interested in the case of John Lathrop. John Lathrop was born in 1584 in Elton, Yorkshire, England. He received a masters of arts degree from Queens College in Cambridge in 1609 ñ an extremely rare feat for the 1600s. He was a religious man, who was placed in charge of a branch of the Church of England. 14 years later he became disenchanted with the church and decided to leave it in favor of becoming a minister over an independent church. Leaving the Church of England for another religion was a crime punishable by death. Eventually John Lathrop was arrested by government officials and was only allowed to go free by leaving for the Americas. He became one of the most prominent spiritual and political leaders in the US.
